A Bit About Peter
For over three decades, Peter has served at the forefront of co-operative
development and strategy, and communicating the difference that co-operatives can
make to people’s lives.
He is best known for his pioneering work in helping to turn the failing Oxford,
Swindon & Gloucester Co-op into one of the UK’s most highly-regarded
cooperatives. He was also the Chief Executive of the Plunkett Foundation when it
became the only co-operative organisation ever to receive The Rochdale Pioneers
Award from the International Co-operative Alliance for its innovation in supporting
rural communities and protecting vital community services.
He also spent a year at Co-operatives UK looking at the membership strategies of
co-operative apex organisations around the world. He was involved in the earliest
days of the social enterprise sector and exploring how social impact could be
measured.
He graduated in with a Bsc (Hons) in Economics from Queen Mary College, London.
He also holds certificates in PR and Marketing, Horticulture and Wine.
Peter has always looked beyond the day-to-day to challenge co-operatives and other
social enterprises to help create a better, fairer world. He believes that they only
succeed when their values guide the issues they tackle, which in turn guide their
actions.
He has recently moved back to his childhood city of Brighton & Hove in England and
is busy catching up on its countryside, its food and its wine.
